Heifers less than 500 lbs sold 15.00 higher, 500 to 800 lbs sold steady to 3.00 lower and over 800 lbs sold 2.00 to 5.00 higher on a light test of those heavier weights. Demand was good to very good on some weights and classes of cattle throughout the week. Little downward pressure on the feeder cattle sales at week's close as the CME cattle boards stubbed their toe on Friday and closed the day sharply lower. Overall, the market is still very good for the second week of January. Quite a few replacement heifers were noted in this week's report with some getting sold by the head. It looks like there will be several pastures full of breeding heifers this summer. Maybe a slight build up. But, quite a few ranchers have old cows and need to swap for something more youthful. Feedlot trade finally happened on Friday with live sales steady to 1.00 higher from 232.00 to 233.50 and dressed sales steady at 365.00.
